The development of the Port of Brisbane is paramount to the importing and exporting industry in South East Queensland. The development of car storage facilities across the port assists in the safe storage and distribution of vehicles to car yards across Brisbane.
Whimbrel Street South Car Storage Facility included bulk earthworks, drainage, electrical reticulation, fire services, ram raid and electric fencing, landscaping and associated works. The project also included alterations to traffic islands to ensure adequate turning lanes for all vehicles. This was performed under traffic and in line with the MCE Traffic Management Plan.
McIlwain Civil contracted Bachmann Plant Hire to complete the complex earthworks package which required strict tolerance to be met on the minimal grades into the 92 stormwater structures. Saltwater and recycled water were used predominantly throughout the project to ease the burden on the potable water supply.
The inclusion of ram raid and electric fencing surrounded by large boulders ensured the safety and security of all vehicles stored onsite. McIlwain Civil deployed a large internal resource pool which oversaw a substantial subcontractor presence. All Subcontractors should be commended for their contribution to the success of the project.
The Storage Facility was our first contract for the Port of Brisbane and the successful completion of the project lead to our inclusion on the Port of Brisbane preferred contractor panel.
