Project Summary - Port Drive Upgrade
McIlwain Civil was awarded an early works contract for the bulk earthworks for the proposed Captain Bishop Bridge Duplication and Port Drive Upgrade. Works included the excavation and haulage of approximately 95,000m3 of stockpiled borrow material from a nearby site. The material was monitored and tested to ensure full compliance with the project specification. The site is located on Port Drive which is the only access road to and from the Port of Brisbane carrying in excess of 20,000 VPD. As such Traffic Management and Control Plans were implemented to ensure minimal disruption and safety of both workers and the general public.
The placement of structural fill material was completed in accordance with stringent Department of Main Road’s specifications. Compaction levels over and above the minimum of 95% RDD (Modified) were consistently achieved. The tight construction program required the placement of approximately 2,000m3 (200 truck movements) of material per day. Due to the volume of trucks leaving and entering the site a street sweeper and water truck was employed to maintain the existing roads free from mud and dust.
