Boat Ramp Construction

Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron Manly

Client

Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron

Location

Manly Boat Harbour

Contractual Completion Date

June 2010

Original Contract Value

$0.3M

McIlwain successfully delivered the Boat Ramp for the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron on time, to budget and to a high standard of quality.

The boat ramp consisted of 72 precast panels which were laid on a rock platform installed and trimmed by the latest GPS underwater technology.

The 72 planks were installed during a low tide on three consecutive days utilising a crane and an experienced dive team.  The project was completed 3 weeks ahead of program.

Once the planks were installed a 300m 2 concrete slab was poured and a pattern was stencilled successfully into the 50MPA Concrete.  The slab had to be poured and stencilled in a two hour window during low tide.   The shoulders adjoining the cast-insitu slab were stablised with 10m 3 of fully grouted stone pitching.

The boat ramp can accommodate 6 trailers simultaneously and has dramatically increased the capacity of the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron to facilitate multiple sailing regattas.
