The Ecovillage at Currumbin is a mutli-award wining, sustainable rural-residential development in the Gold Coast hinterland. Landmatters Currumbin Valley was awarded the FIABCI Prix d’Excellence in 2008 for the Worlds Best Environmental Development.

McIlwain Civil completed Stages 3 & 4 of the development for which they were awarded the 2007 CCF Earth Awards Category 2. Upon the successful completion of stages 3 & 4 McIlwain Civil were engaged by Landmatters to complete stages 5 & 6 and the link road which commenced construction in August 2007

Through the initial pre-construction period the collaborative team including McIlwain Civil, Landmatters, the Project Manager (Colin Bear), the Principal Consultant (Bligh Tanner) and the Superintendent, Tim Capes Management Services (TCMS)- via the Superintendent’s Representative, Jason Adams, developed a set of agreed principles and objectives by which the project would abide.

The project contained specific technical areas and sensitive environmental issues which were addressed in accordance with all relevant legislative requirements, contract specifications and MCE internal systems.

The project specifications and guidelines incorporated multiple dams and ponds, stormwater drainage infrastructure, a common services trench, minimised clearing with vehicular and construction traffic excluded from all lots. Specialised construction techniques were adopted to assist in the delivery of the project including laser guided directional boring for the sewer pipeline.

Inclement weather conditions made the completion of Stage 3 & 4 difficult causing significant changes to design and multiple stoppages and delays in the program. The collaborative approach to the project delivery ensured that these stages were delivered on time despite in excess of 2metres of rain falling throughout the duration of the contract.
