McIlwain Civil was awarded the contact in October 2007 to construct Stages 1& 2 of the 85 Ha Industrial Estate Leitchs Road, Brendale. Despite extensive rainfall in the early stages of the project McIlwain Civil was able to complete the project on budget and within the contractual timeframe. The works included the installation of approximately 700m of trunk stormwater drainage up to 3/2400x2400 SLBC. These major drainage works included several major stormwater structures, the reconstruction of a downstream open channel and a road crossing of Leitchs Road under traffic. Due to the high volume of traffic ( Estimated> 10,000 VPD) a temporary sidetrack was constructed around the works to ensure minimal delays to passing motorists.
Extensive service relocations were required to construct the works including relocation of trunk water and gas mains as well as optic fibre cables. The works also included the construction of a signalised intersections on Leitchs Road to provide access to the estate. Street Lighting and Electrical Reticulation were also included as well as landscaping of both the estate and the downstream drainage channel. Works downstream included the construction of bridge abutments for a 25m span pedestrian bridge over the open channel.
The performance of McIlwain Civil on this contract met the expectations of the client with respect to time, quality, safety and environmental management. As such McIlwain Civil have been awarded further stages of works on this development and hope to be involved until the completion of all nine stages of the project.
