McIlwain Civil was awarded it’s first project for the Department of Main Roads following the successful tender submission for the Bridge Approaches to Fat Hen Creek.
This milestone occurred within months of McIlwain Civil achieving QLD Government Second Party Accreditation for its Quality System and separate Third Party Accreditation for its Quality, Safety and Environmental Systems.
The project incorporated the construction of 1.5 kilometres of side track to divert traffic throughout the construction period. Once traffic had been successfully diverted the task of removal of the existing and construction of the new road commenced. The new road was constructed partially on the current alignment of the Wide Bay Highway which required the use of the side track as well as the implementation of a stringent Traffic Management Plan.
The new highway alignment necessitated two deep cuttings with significant blasting and bulk earthworks required.
Through a collaborative approach to the project delivery and the assistance of a broad cross section of the local community, McIlwain Civil successfully completed the project in September 2007
