The Birkdale Nursery Subdivision was a 26 lot subdivision and McIlwain Civil as principal contractor was responsible for the installation of stormwater and sewer reticulation, bulk earthworks and roadworks. A large protected vegetation area was located throughout the development.

MCE successfully managed construction works around the protected vegetation. Environmental Induction and consistent monitoring of protection barriers were a daily event on site.

Laser guided tunnel boring techniques were employed beneath an existing clump of trees to ensure adherence to the MCE Environmental Management Plan.

The site was an old nursery and as part of their contract MCE demolished and removed a large number of old planting beds, drainage trenches and drainage material. Around 2500m² of flexible AC pavement was installed. A roundabout was also constructed in the centre of the existing adjoining road, Carinyan Drive. A sewer main had to be installed in the middle of Carinyan Drive which meant that MCE closed the road for a period of three days whilst managing the local traffic to minimise delays.
