Mcilwain Civil were engaged by the Department of Transport & Main Roads to upgrade 700m of Mt Cotton Road including the intersection with Alperton Road.
Contract works involves duplication of the existing carriageway between the existing bridges at Priests Gully and Stockyard Creek. Mcilwain Civil have been awarded the contract based on a strong working relationship with the Department of Transport & Main Roads, suppliers and subcontractors which has been developed over several previous successful contracts.
The project is in an environmentally sensitive region with the surrounding areas being Koala and wildlife protected habitat as well as a Fire Ant area. The works also involve construction and management of sediment retention basins to control site runoff adjacent to both creeks and testing/ treatment procedures prior to any discharge. At the eastern end of the project construction of a Koala crossing bridge structure will allocate a safe passage for Koala’s to cross Mt Cotton Road including monitoring facilities. Environmental management will provide additional challenges to the project team for the duration of the contract.
The contract also includes signalisation of the intersection of Alperton Road as well as improvements to the lighting and visibility through the site. Close liaison with the residents within the worksite will be necessary to maintain driveway access throughout the project.
Upon completion the project will vastly improve the safety of this busy intersection for motorists, cyclists as well as local residents and the greater community.
